Tile adds visual interest to your home and is also highly functional and easy to clean. Dirt sits on top waiting to be wiped off, but, like anything, a little TLC is required periodically. With regular maintenance, tile flooring can look great and perform well for years and your mobile tile store, Houston Installation Services, tells you how.

How often should I clean?

We're asked this a lot. Ideally, the floors should be swept or vacuumed daily so that dirt won't stain the grout or that dirt won't embed and scratch and dull. Mopping is generally done once a week, but that depends on how busy the room is. Of course, spills should be cleaned up as soon as possible.

Can I make my own floor cleaner?

This is another question we hear often, and the answer is yes. We recommend seven cups of water combined with ⅓ cup lemon juice and ¼ cup baking soda. You can also use seven cups of water to ¼ cup vinegar. Both are acidic enough to lift stains and dirt but won't leave any chemical residue. If you'd instead use commercial detergent, be sure it's mild and non-abrasive. Of course, before mopping, always sweep or vacuum thoroughly first; otherwise, you might just spread dirt around.

Keeping grout clean is vital; it absorbs dirt and grease and can make the floors look dingy. You can use a commercially prepared grout cleaner and a toothbrush or create your paste with baking soda and water, letting it sit on the grout overnight, then scrubbing it the next day with a toothbrush. For tough, stubborn stains, seek the advice of your flooring expert.
